The distrbution business was established in Canada over 50 years ago and is a respected member of the Canadian chemical community, the Canadian Association of Chemical Distributors® (CACD) and is a committed participant in the Responsible Distribution program as it relates to distribution of chemical products. Chemical and mineral products are bought from over 25 suppliers, in the United States, Europe and Asia and resold in Canada and the United States. The business is divided between direct shipments from suppliers to customers and shipments from Min-Chem warehouses. Products are stored and then shipped LTL to customers. Min-Chem also buys some products in bulk and packages into drums and bags.
From its beginnings in Montreal in 1943, the Company grew by establishing itself as a specialty chemical supplier, operating through trained technical sales representatives, and selling to market niches. The plastics, rubber, foundry, steel, food and pharmaceutical industries became the areas where the company would find its future growth.
In the beginning, the Company grew by exporting minerals from North America back to Europe and bringing other chemicals from Europe that were not in abundance in North America.
The Company was founded as Minerals and Chemicals Ltd in Montreal, Quebec by Justin Lang. When his son John, after graduation from university and an apprenticeship in Europe, joined Justin in the business in 1970, they decided to expand into Ontario. John started Min-Chem in Mississauga and later moved the business to Oakville.
